TurboSFV v10.21 - Pause and continue a checksum validation |
Notes to TurboSFV v10.21:
In the new version of TurboSFV, a running checksum validation can be paused. Means, the validation process stops immediately with reading the file, sits back and waits for a signal to continue or to cancel the operation. If continue is
signaled, then the validation process continues with reading the file and with calculating the checksum. In case of a stop signal, the operation will be canceled.
The pause signal can be triggered by clicking on a new pause icon, which will be displayed during a validation along with the stop icon. If clicked, then the validation will be paused and the pause icon will be replaced by a continue icon.
Then, either the continue icon can be clicked, to go on with the validation, or the stop icon, to interrupt the validation
process.
Checksum calculations are usually IO intensive tasks and depending on the used hash algorithm, also CPU hungry. Means, that for example calculating hash values for all files on a drive, will keep the system busy for a while. With the pause
and continue functionality, it's possible to make a break, so that other tasks can be done meanwhile, which require a fully available system. Once done, the validation process can be continued, without loosing the intermediate
results.
The new functionality is only available for checksum validations started with the main program, representing the graphical user interface. This feature was implemented on user request.
