TurboSFV v6.90 - Skip reparse points |
Notes to TurboSFV v6.90:
In this version, focus was set on calculating hash values for a system drive.
It turned out, that if a system drive was hashed, which isn't the boot drive, files were added to the hash file which don't belong to the system drive. This was caused by so called reparse points, which are created by the operating system
and which redirect to physical locations of files and folders. The problem with these reparse points is, that drive and path information is hardcoded: They point to the correct physical location, if the drive to hash is the boot drive. If
it's not the boot drive, they may point to the wrong location.
In the new version, TurboSFV does no longer resolve these reparse points, except you have selected a folder which itself is a redirector.
For hashing a system drive, it's recommended to boot a Windows PE (Preinstallation Environment) and to start the calculation process from there. You have then less problems with locked files, sharing violations or security issues. The
command-line versions which are included in TurboSFV ME (Mobile Edition), are now running in WinPE recent build 10.0.10586.0. In older versions of WinPE it may also work, but this wasn't
tested.
